About Us

A. de Vos Mehra was founded by Ariane de Vos and Asavari Mehra, brought together by a shared memory of growing up around objects that carried history. Pieces that had been worn, passed down, and quietly treasured by the people who came before them. That shared memory became a question: what happens to objects like that when the people who hold their stories are gone? AVM is the answer they built together.

Every collection begins with research. We identify a distinct moment in history - a civilisation, a place, a period - and study it: its symbolism, its materiality, its relationship with objects and adornment.

From there, we source. Each artefact is individually found - a Roman carnelian, an ancient coin, a fragment of glass - and evaluated for its historical significance, its condition, and the story it carries. We work closely with historians, numismatists, and specialists in material culture to ensure that understanding is never lost.

What follows is a process of reinterpretation. Working with specialist craftspeople in New York, each artefact becomes the foundation of a single object. Nothing can be replicated. Nothing can be mass produced. Every piece exists once because the artefact exists once.

AVM is a New York house. Not by accident but by intention.
The city has the hands. Within a few blocks of one another, the Diamond District and the Garment District hold the craftspeople, the setters, the casters, and the finishers who make AVM objects possible.

History leaves things behind. We find them.
A. de Vos Mehra was founded on a single belief: the most compelling objects are those that have already lived.
We are a house of objects built from real artefacts - pieces of material culture drawn from distinct moments in human history, reinterpreted through contemporary design and craftsmanship, and brought forward into the present.
Not inspired by the past. Made from it.
