The Vestige, Earrings

Ancient Roman green glass beads, suspended beneath polished 750 gold studs

At the heart of The Vestige, Earrings, hang two cylindrical ancient green glass beads, suspended beneath a polished 750 gold stud, allowing each bead slight movement, and secured behind a small gold button. Their minor irregularities intentionally preserved, so their differences in scale, form, colour and wear belong to the objects themselves, accumulated over centuries rather than imposed by us. In motion, the ancient glass becomes adornment once again.

Beads have been among humanity's most enduring forms of adornment, with these particular ones placed as symbols of rebirth and eternal life. Worn once more after a journey spanning millennia, they continue the purpose for which they were first created, connecting one wearer to another across nearly two thousand years.
