The Vestige, Studs

A pair of round ancient Roman glass beads, set in 750 gold

Two original Roman green glass beads sit at the centre of The Vestige, Studs. Their irregular forms, softened surfaces and subtle differences in colour bear the traces of nearly two millennia, preserved rather than perfected. Set simply in 750 gold, the design allows the ancient glass to remain the focus: fragments of Roman material culture made wearable once again.

Regarded as symbols of rebirth and eternal life, such beads, deeply personal, maintained beliefs that extended beyond a single lifetime. Worn once again, they carry that same promise forward; proof that some objects never lose their meaning, only the subject that wears them.
